(Summary description)With the financial support of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Shenyang Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Zhongke Pharmaceutical and Zhongke Fertilizer Company, the Sino-US Green Partnership Program Bilateral Seminar hosted by the Shenyang Institute of Ecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and co-organized by Purdue University, the University of Tennessee, the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang Agricultural University, and Shenyang University was held in Shenyang, China. The theme of this seminar is "Land Use, Ecosystem Services and Sustainable Development", and more than 20 American scientists from Purdue University and the University of Tennessee, more than 10 scientists from Japan and more than 30 scientists from China made keynote speeches during the seminar, and more than 200 teachers and students from inside and outside the seminar attended the seminar.

The seminar was presided over by Ji Lanzhu, secretary of the Party Committee of the Shenyang Institute of Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Han Xingguo, Director of Shenyang Institute of Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Gary Sayler, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Oak Tree, Zhou Chenghu, Deputy Director of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Jonathan Harbor, Purdue University, and Mr. Li Gang, Deputy Director of Shenyang Science and Technology Bureau, respectively delivered speeches to the conference. Subsequently, the participating experts conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on sustainable ecosystem management and services, ecological processes of carbon, nitrogen and water, development and utilization of bioenergy, biotechnology and environmental remediation and pollution control, nutrient cycling and new fertilizers in farmland systems, eco-cities and green economy. Through this seminar, a plan to bring together research, policy and economic instruments to achieve the goals was developed, laying a solid foundation for deepening the ties between the two countries in the field of green economy technology and bioeconomy technology in the future.

After the meeting, the expert representatives also visited the State Key Laboratory of Forest Soil Ecology and the Daqinggou Sand Experiment Station of our institute.

China and the United States are two important countries in today's globalization of stone energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, so it is necessary for the two countries to establish a joint approach to the challenges posed by global climate change and sustainable development. The U.S.-China Green Partnership was proposed by scientists from both countries in 2006 against the backdrop of the U.S.-China Strategic Economic Dialogue mechanism to address changes in global ecosystems and the environment, and was formally approved by the U.S. Department of State and the China Development and Reform Commission in 2011. The goal of the U.S.-China Green Partnership is to establish high-level dialogue mechanisms and bridges of dialogue and communication between scientists and policymakers in the United States and China to jointly address the challenges posed by climate change, environmental pollution, and ecological security.
